An accomplished flute player with 18+ years experience, Jaia Meri began studying flute at age 8.
She continued studying flute throughout Middle and High School. As a student at the Maggie Walker Governor's School for International and Government Studies, she participated with Huguenot High School's marching band for four years, and consistently earned 1st or 2nd Chair designations both in Marching Band, and in Districtwide, Regional, and State Student Ensembles. She has also performed as 1st Chair Flute with the Central Virginia Wind Ensemble.
Jaia has a degree in Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering. She is a member of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and has served in leadership roles as Region II Fall Regional Conference Planning Chairperson, and Regional Publications and Public Relations Chairperson. She is currently employed as a Researcher for a major health and beauty manufacturing company.
As a balance to her scientific and engineering career pursuits, and in order to keep her musical skills fresh, Jaia currently performs for select private events as part of the Greene Girls Duo, with her mother-Shelley Greene on Harp.
In her spare time, Jaia loves to paint, do graphic design, occasional makeup artistry, and spend quality time with her new godson TJ.
